A WORD ABOUT GRADES

Normal Grades for High School Completion Classes are: A, B, C, D, E and Plus and Minus are legitimate. The grade of "F" will be considered for GPA purposes only if you have indicated so in Menu:7.3.10. GPA GRADES

     Special grades are:

         CR = Credit Earned, but no GPA implication
         NC = No Credit and no GPA implication
         N = Not mastered, same as Failing
         IP = Incomplete, but Passing
         IA = Incomplete for Attendance reasons
         IH = Incomplete because Homework missing
         IT = Incomplete because Tests are missing
         TX = Transfered out, no credit and no GPA
         W = Withdrawn, no credit, no GPA implication
         WP = Widhdrawn, but was passing, no credit, no GPA implication
         WF = Widhdrawn before failed, no credit, no GPA implication

Grades of Incomplete, Transfer or Withdrawn carry no credit or GPA implication.

Some schools may wish to assign grades and grant credit for ABE classes. However, STUREC does not consider ABE classes to be eligible for GPA. When assigning grades and/or granting credit, the following values are legal to use: A, B, C, D, E

     Special values are:

         P  = Passed objective
         S  = Satisfactory progress
         F = Failed to meet objectives
         U  = Unsatisfcatory progress
         N  = Not mastered
         I  = Incomplete
         W = Withdrawn from class before completing
         T = Transfered to another class

Honor Rolls can be calculated using college style Honor Point weighted Grade Point Average or Grade Letter Match style. In calculating an Honor Roll, STUREC will reject a student who has one or more Incompletes or Failures, but will calculate an "E" into the GPA. Transfers or Withdrawls are transparent to the calculation.

In a Letter Match style Honor Roll, all grades must be equal to or greater than the selected "hit" grade except a grade of "CR" which is transparent to the calculation.

In a college style Honor Point GPA honor roll, STUREC uses the following formula: GPA = Honor Points / Total Credits(attempted), where Honor Points = Grade Value * Credit Value.

Example:
For a student that took 3 classes (worth ½ credit each), and earned an B+, A, and B, their GPA would be calculated as follows:
Grade Value
A+ 4.333
A 4.000
A- 3.667
B+ 3.333
B 3.000
B- 2.667
C+ 2.333
C 2.000
C- 1.667
D+ 1.333
D 1.000
D- 0.667
E 0.000
F 0.000
B+ in a ½ credit class
3.333 * .5 = 1.667 Honor Points

A in a ½ credit class
4.000 * .5 = 2.000 Honor Points

B in a ½ credit class
3.000 * .5 = 1.500 Honor Points
GPA = 5.167 Honor Points / 1.5 Credits(attempted)
GPA = 3.445 (B+)
