The procedure is fairly simple in concept, but the actual steps will vary according to your network environment. Note: this procedure assumes a level of knowledge and experience with administration of Novell networks and general DOS skills that is beyond the scope of this document.
1. Create a first level directory (folder if you prefer)
on the appropriate network drive. STUREC© may not be installed on a
"root-level" folder or directory.
2. Extract STUREC© program files, registration file and
support utilities to this directory.
3. Create a user group for the STUREC© users.
4. Prepare workstations that will access the STUREC© program
and database.
As previously mentioned, the above procedure will be implemented differently in different network
environments. Consider this scenario: you want to install STUREC© on the VOL1 volume of a Novell Netware® network file server. NOTE: the root-directory of VOL1
will be mapped as DOS drive letter S:, using this login script command: MAP S:=VOL1:
(Do not map a drive letter directly to the Sturec folder!)
Here is an expanded version of the above procedure:
1. Login to the network as a user with Supervisor (or Admin) privileges on the appropriate server.
2. Open the S: drive, and create a directory called "STUREC". It could at either the
first-level (i.e. S:\STUREC), or as a lower-level sub-directory (i.e. S:\APPS\STUREC), as your local policy dictates.
NOTE: For security and other technical reasons, STUREC© will not run from a "root" directory, and should therefore be installed in a
first, second or third level sub-directory. For example, S:\ADULTED\DOSAPPS\STUREC is acceptable, but
simply S:\ may open security holes (on Windows NT systems primarily) and the
program will not be successful creating and disposing of temporary files and
sub-folders.
3. Launch the Netware Administration Program (NWADMN32.EXE), and create a GROUP object
named STUREC.
4. Give the new STUREC group READ, WRITE, FILE-SCAN, MODIFY, and ERASE rights to the STUREC directory created above.
5. Add the appropriate Users to the STUREC group.
6. Save the License file installer in the Sturec directory created above. This is the file sent via e-mail by
MicroData Systems, Ltd. It is confirmation of your purchase and its name
is your five digit LEA number with the extension of .EXE
7. Download the STUREC© Distribution Archive
directly to the directory created
above.
8. Download the pkZip® Archive Utility shareware distribution archive
from our web-site, to the same folder.
9. Run a DOS prompt. Log onto the logical drive letter that you have assigned and
change to the STUREC directory created above.
10. Type PKZ204G, and press [Enter]. This will install the pkZip® backup utility.
11. Type SR03NEW, and press [Enter]. This will install the STUREC© program files.
If asked permission to overwrite, answer Yes.
12. Now run the License installer file from step 4 by simply typing its name. This will install the STUREC©
Registration License key.
NOTE: For clarity, we use your 5-digit LEA number as the name of this self-extracting archive -- i.e. 62050.EXE
Now that STUREC© has been installed on a network volume, each workstation
that will access it must be visited to prepare them for use with the program.
1. Open a DOS window (Click Start | Programs | MS-DOS Prompt).
2. Type EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS and press Enter. This should open the file in
the DOS text-editor. Find the FILES= setting (normally near the bottom of the file), and adjust the value to
101. Press [Alt-F], then [X] then [Y] to save the changes and close the editor.
3. Type EXIT, and press [Enter] to close the DOS prompt.
4. Open Windows Explorer ( the My Computer desktop icon). Open the logical drive
created on the network. Open the folder created above.
5. Locate the item Sr03.exe, Right-Click on it and select Send To.. | Desktop (Create Shortcut) from the pop-up menu.
There will also be an item Sr03.com, do not use that to create your shortcut.
Use the one with .exe extension.
6. Right-click on the newly created Shortcut to STUREC© icon on your Desktop, and select
Properties from the pop-up menu.
7. Click on the Screen tab and select either Full-screen or Window under
Usage, your choice. Initial size should be Default.
8. Click on the Misc tab and make sure that Always suspend under Background is not checked.
9. Click the Memory tab and make sure that all items are set to Auto
10. Click on the Program tab of the property sheet, and make sure the
the Close on exit item is checked. If desired, you may click on the Change Icon
button and select a different graphic. We like the little red apple.
11. Click the OK button to save and apply your changes.
12. Installation is now complete.
1. Open a DOS window (Click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt).

5. Locate the item Sr03.com, Right-Click on it and select Send To.. | Desktop (Create Shortcut) from the pop-up menu.
There will also be an item Sr03.exe, do not use that to create your shortcut.
Use the one with .com extension, but don't erase the .exe file.
6. Right-click on the newly created Shortcut to STUREC© icon on your Desktop, and select
Properties from the pop-up menu.
7. Select the Layout tab of the property sheet, and make sure that both the Screen Buffer Size, and Window Size are set to Height: 25 and Width: 80

Don't forget to setup printing for each workstation. STUREC© is a full-featured and very powerful application, but when it comes to printing, it only knows about LPT1. If you have a PCL enabled printer attached directly to the parallel port, there should be no problem.
